Building a Stronger Support System With Summer Group Therapy Programs

A group of teens gather in what looks like a school hallway. They appear to be supportive and like each other.

For many teens, the journey toward better mental health can feel isolating, especially when they believe they’re facing their struggles alone. At Embrace U, we know that healing happens not just through professional guidance, but also through connection. That’s why our group therapy programs for adolescents places a strong emphasis on connection, communication, coping skills, and peer support—especially during the summer, when teens have the time and space to fully engage.

Embrace U’s summer therapy programs are intensive, designed for adolescents (10 to 18 years old) who struggle with symptoms of a mental health challenge to the point where their ability to function has been impacted. In many cases, participants come to Embrace U after trying one-on-one therapy, or after completing an inpatient stay. We require participants to attend sessions at least three times a week, for up to six hours a day.

The Power of Peer Support

One of the most valuable aspects of IOP is the opportunity for teens to participate in group therapy. These sessions provide a supportive, therapist-guided environment where teens can openly share their experiences, learn from others, and develop a sense of belonging.

Hearing “I’ve been there too” from someone their own age can be incredibly powerful. Group therapy helps reduce the stigma around mental health struggles and gives teens the confidence to speak up, express themselves, and grow emotionally.

A Safe Space for Connection

Summer IOP offers a unique chance for teens to connect with peers outside the pressures of school. In this safe and structured setting, participants can build trust, develop empathy, and practice social skills—all without the fear of judgment.

Whether they’re coping with anxiety, depression, or stress, teens quickly realize they are not alone. These shared experiences often create strong bonds and friendships that extend beyond the program itself.

A Support Network That Lasts

Entering the school year with an existing support system can make a world of difference. Teens who complete summer IOP often return to school with more confidence, improved communication skills, and the reassurance that they have people in their corner.

Having already built a foundation of emotional support, they’re better prepared to face academic and social challenges with resilience and self-awareness.
