Teen & Adolescent PHP

Some teenagers with mental health issues require a higher level of support than traditional outpatient services. Partial hospitalization programs (PHP) may be the best option, as they provide more focused treatment time and closer monitoring of behavioral issues. Teens recommended for PHP are typically experiencing severe symptoms that impact their ability to attend school. Treatment includes structured therapy sessions to help teens develop healthy coping mechanisms and lifelong skills.

While mental health treatment is the primary focus of Embrace U’s PHP, your teenager will also be able to complete schoolwork as part of their scheduled time. The goal is to help patients learn to manage their mental health while slowly transitioning back to the demands of daily life. Embrace U aims to meet patients where they’re at and assist them in effectively dealing with symptoms and needs as they arise. Upon completion of Embrace U, teens can participate in other forms of outpatient treatment to receive continued support as they return to school as usual.

We tailor treatment plans according to each patient’s schedule, mental health needs, and progress. We can adjust their level of care to help them gradually transition back to school and participation in other activities.

What Does PHP Involve?

A PHP, or partial hospitalization program, acts as a short-term, intensive option for teens who are ready for discharge from an inpatient facility or need more comprehensive treatment than traditional outpatient programs. Our teen PHP in Tennessee is designed to be an alternative to hospitalization or lengthy hospital stays in general.

Embrace U’s PHP aims to help teens and adolescents return to a higher level of functioning through a combination of group, family, and individual therapy. PHP treatment can allow a teen to focus on their mental health without entirely distancing themselves from education. Your child will have one hour at least three days a week to work on school assignments. Your child’s primary therapist will work with you and your family to identify manageable goals for school as they progress through the program. From there, the transition back to school and daily life can become much easier, and more likely to be successful.

If mental health symptoms have impacted your child’s ability to function normally, teen PHP treatment may be the right fit. At Embrace U, we know that preventing mental health crises and helping teens work toward a higher level of functioning can be one of the best ways to ensure long-term success.

Who Can Benefit From Teen PHP?

PHP teen mental health treatment can offer a safe space for adolescents to find support, gain valuable skills, and learn how to best move forward as they take charge of their lives. Our goal is to ensure patients feel free to express themselves, set goals for themselves, and feel empowered to achieve them.

A PHP is usually best for teens or adolescents whose symptoms have become significant enough to prevent them from thriving at school and home. These sorts of symptoms can stem from many mental health concerns and life events, including:

  • Anxiety disorders
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Depression
  • Family and relationship issues
  • Grief and loss
  • Isolation
  • Poor self-esteem or body image
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
